VFT is a start-up company that is commercializing fiber film technology out of its headquarters in Lockhart, TX (about 20 minutes south of Austin).  In addition to ongoing commercialization in refining crude vegetable oils, VFT is aggressively developing its revolutionary technology for application in various industries that depend on multi-phase reactions and separations.  The technology has application in 100’s of industries, including renewable fuels, organic synthesis, metals removal, and rare earth metal purification, among many others. 

 

Job summary: Responsible for building new fiber reactor designs and for implementing laboratory research and analysis activities related to the facility. The Lab Tech. will work with VFT Chemists to develop new fiber reactor products and processes in diverse fields of chemistry.

The profile of candidates we're looking for are:

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry or related field with basic knowledge of analytical and organic chemistry
    or 2+ years’ experience as a lab tech required

  • Prior experience working in a chemical or petrochemical laboratory is desired, wet-chemistry experience preferred

  • Experience in industrial research in a chemical related laboratory is a plus but not required

  • Well organized with lab safety and experimental record documentation

  • Basic knowledge and understanding of AC/DC circuits and mechanical principles

 

What you'll be asked to do:

  • Assemble and operate fiber reactors according to guidance from VFT Senior Chemists

  • Conduct physical and chemical testing of in-process and final product samples

  • Perform routine maintenance and calibration of analytical instruments

  • Procure chemicals and lab supplies and maintain inventory

  • Practice good housekeeping of the laboratory

  • Produce accurate records and data for R&D projects

  • Comply with company-required safety and training program

  • Meet demanding project timelines and productivity pressures

  • Document procedures and operating instructions

  • Work with mechanical hand tools

  • Align, fit, or assemble component parts, using hand or tools, fixtures and/or templates

Skills, Abilities & Qualifications:

  • Mechanical skills to assemble proprietary fiber reactors required

  • Ability to work in groups, interacting with all levels of  lab staff and management

  • Ability to generate accurate data/reports without significant supervision

  • Ability to work well in a lean, fast-paced work environment

  • Strong verbal communication skills

  • Knowledge of lab and safety procedures and protocols

  • Self-motivated, results driven and collaborative

  • Eager to learn new things and willing to take on responsibility

  • Read and understand blueprints, schematics, diagrams, or technical orders to determine methods and sequences of assembly

  • Knowledge of test instruments such as oscilloscopes and digital multimeters
