The Electro-Mechanical Technician performs the installation of electronic hardware and parts, records and analyses test results, and prepares written documentation. The Electro-Mechanical Technician reads schematics, blueprints, and diagrams to find the sequence and method of assembly of a piece of equipment, machine, or part. The Electro-Mechanical Technician verifies parts dimensions using precision measuring instruments to be sure specifications are met. 


Essential Duties and Responsibilities (May include any or all of the following. Other duties may be assigned.)

  • Assist with development of preliminary calculations and equipment designs in order to develop proposals as needed 

  • Read schematics, blueprints, and diagrams to find the sequence and method of assembly of a piece of equipment  

  • Work with Engineering, Technology/Scientific, and Operations staff to resolve design problems or issues that arise from internal or client designs 

  • Execute equipment and piping layout plans on assigned projects  

  • Work with others as needed to accomplish project objectives and work with outside engineering contractors as needed on projects that exceed internal capabilities 

  • Provide design durations and updates to Managers to assist in developing project schedules for assigned projects 

  • Maintain solid understanding and working knowledge of industry codes, specifications, and standards

  • Prepare scopes, specifications, data sheets, QC requirements, and vendor document needs as needed to support fabrication of equipment internally and by third party sub-contractors 

  • Maintain document control of design documents  

  • Assist with the development of project schedules, budgets, quality requirements, and cost forecasts for projects as assigned 

  • Work toward timely completion of VFT initiatives as required 


Education and/or Experience

  • Associate’s degree or technical certification in Engineering Technology, Electro-Mechanical Technology, or similar 

  • Experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment assembling and disassembling electro-mechanical components 

  • Minimum two (2) years Electrical and Mechanical troubleshooting and repair experience 

Skills, Abilities, & Qualifications

  • Experience with basic electrical circuits and electronic assembly 

  • Experience using electronic test equipment and tools (i.e., DMM, oscilloscope soldering irons, etc.) 

  • Experience with safe operation of standard power tools (drills, drivers, saws, etc.) 

  • Experience with pneumatics, air compression, and vacuum 

  • MS Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) 

  • Familiarity with material and chemical compatibility 

  • Familiarity with computer and network technology 

  • Familiarity with control technology (PLC, controls, inverters) 

  • Working knowledge of fixture design including basic machining considerations and developing test methods 

  • Knowledge of Measurement Systems Analysis (MSA) 

  • Familiarity with process control and statistics 

  • Technical writing skills  

  • Self-motivated and results driven attitude  

  • Ability to effectively present complex information to both internal and external groups 

  • Strong analytical and communication (verbal and written) skills
